New York Fashion Week

No fashion blog would be complete without mentioning Fashion Week events! New York Fashion Week has been going on since last Thursday, Feb 12. You can see the entire list of designers by day here .

Be sure to check out Edition by Georges Chakra - The Women's Wear Daily critic didn't have much to say, but I found his collection very interesting. It's difficult to determine his inspiration, because he shows so much diversity. His collection begins with what looks like a sci-fi liquid skin in a luxurious dark colors shaped into intricately detailed dresses and pants, then suddenly transitions into a delightful soft pastel print on a trenches over very pretty short dresses. These contrasting looks work, though, if you remember the trend that calls for extreme opposites. The next set of ensembles, however, should really be reconsidered. A series of hot pink and black dresses with a strong 80s revival feel (followed with what looks to me like filler to give buyers safe pieces to order) lack the refined research and mood of the previous pieces. Luckily the full-length gowns at the end shifts us once again toward admiration - the silver one-sleeved gown peaks interest that is not disappointed when the last cream-colored intricately draped dress appears on the runway.. This designer obviously has talent, but it looks like the line could use some editing and direction.... Take a look at the collection yourself and let me know what you think.

There are around 175 companies showing during this intense week. If you multiply that by the number of people working for each company, plus all the companies that organize, market, and promote Fashion Week, you can see that employment in this industry is still a viable option!

Short skirts, shorts and colored tights continue to be strong for winter. They always say in times of economic struggle hemlines rise...
