Golden Globes - fashion trends!

It's interesting that the fashion buzz after these Hollywood award shows is filled with best and worst dressed conclusions. I'd like to see more social-related commentary about what the dresses and tuxes mean - what trends they initiate and reflect - and how they came about....

For example, Drew Barrymore's Versacce dress was on the worst-dressed list from moviephone (whatever that is) but do those people link the abstract detailing on her dress (and Sophia Lauren's dress) to the special effects we saw in Avitar? Are they aware that when something is different like that it may just take a more sophisticated taste/sensitivity level to be appreciated? How will this be reflected in the fashion trends? At least People Magazine and Vogue liked Drew's dress.

What about Sophia Lauren's glasses? Tell me, are they the new trend (yes) or her old ones from the 1980s (yes).

Why are the women's ensembles so varied and controversial and the men's so similar and unobtrusive?

Is nude the color of the year or what?? On that note, what happend to Nicole Kidman's stylist? Her dress with all those droopy bows looks like my great-aunt's dress from the 1930s after a long, hot afternooon party on the lawn.... I've certainly seen Nicole looking better! Vogue had her on their best-dressed list - well, to each her own, right?

OMG - and what about all those knees showing? This is the Golden Globes, not a cocktail party! I hope and pray that the evening gown tradition continues and more women don't start wearing short dresses with bare legs to the Golden Globes. I know it's old-fashioned, but if you're not going to wear a gown on the red carpet, where are you going to wear it? Bumper stickers with "Save the Gowns" anyone?

Kate Winslet was as striking as a shark poured into that perfectly-fitting Yves-St. Laurent dress.

Ok, I'll give it to you that it's natural to have favorites, and mine was Kate Hudson's. Some blogs blasted it as a bridesmaid's dress, (If you ask me, Fergie was the perfect bridesmaid) but I found Kate's dress to be sculptural and unique. I'm so tired of these flowing, fluffy deep v-necked gowns and this Marchesa gown stood out as distinct and beautiful. Too bad she couldn't walk in those shoes, and held on to the train like it was a security blanket though...
