Boston Symphony Orchestra: Lasell Rocks again with Project Tchaikovsky -

Last night the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Project Tchaikovsky design challenge came to a resounding close with 10 absolutely fabulous gowns by area fashion design students. The dynamic atmosphere before the symphony itself was such a thrill as students followed their georgeous statuesque-like models wearing creative and beautifully executed interpretations of fashion inspired by the music of Tchaikovsky. Representing Lasell were designers Fallon Coster and Melissa Higgins and models Gabrielle Collado and Crista Langhben. Both the designers and models made the many Lasell faculty, administrators and friends so very proud!!

Then after enjoying the dynamic symphony of Tchaikovsky, everyone enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and each other's company while the judges took their place next to the runway. You'll recognize the brunette in the center - no, it's not Elizabeth Taylor in the 1960s (but could be!) It's Lasell alumna, Nara Paz, a successful Boston designer who was one of the judges. The others were: Wendy Putnam, BSO violinist Michael DePaulo, fashion designer, Alexandra Hall, editor-in-chief, Fashion Boston, Mary Nobile King, boutique director of Chanel Boston. Jared Bowen, arts reporter for WGBH’s Greater Boston, served as the emcee event.
As each garment came out on the runway, it was clear to see that it would be a close call to choose the best. Vice President Jim Ostrow, President Michael Alexander and Fashion Department Chair Mary Ruppert-Stroescu (me!) waited with baited breath.... to hear that our very own Fallon Coster was voted the people's choice!!!
Here is Fallon with her bouquet, her silk charmeuse dress on Gabirelle behind her. Fallon hand-sewed over 2 thousand beads onto this dress!
Congratulations, Fallon and Melissa! You have done an outstanding job!
